When I entered university, I joined Toastmasters and became a part-time Public Speaking Trainer at the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups. When we went to schools, we used to deliver one introductory workshop in Public Speaking. Although the goal of the workshop was to help students become better speakers, strangely, the trainers were speaking most of the time. 

My mission in life is to train our youth to be #futureready and not just for exams – particularly in communication, critical thinking, and confidence building. 

Alfredo Wu, calligrapher from Taiwan, who started to learn calligraphy by himself at the

age of 15. When he was in college, with the support and advice from his friends, in 2015,

he established his own Facebook and Instagram page “Alfredo Calligraphy” and

begin to present handwriting calligraphy works on the Internet. 

With the rich creative inspiration, Alfredo use fountain pen or traditional calligraphy brush to write lyrics, famous quotes, sacred scriptures of Buddhism, Lunar New Year spring couplet, logo design and so on. He participated in the tourism advertising project with Taiwan Tourism Administration in San Francisco Office and also presented live performance many times. 

“The greatest happiness for me is to write beautiful words in my own calligraphy style

which also brings happiness and peace to people.” With this attitude, “Alfredo

Calligraphy” become the place that serving people and bring positive energy to people through his handwriting and calligraphy.

Kathleen Rhee is an independent artist currently living in the Gold Coast, Australia. With a passion for working on large-scale abstract paintings her beautifully calming works are inspired by the country’s picturesque natural environment. She studied at Brisbane Institute of Art, ANU Art School Canberra and Parsons School of Design New York City. She has exhibited across the globe with her works being held in private and public collections in 15 countries. Kathleen’s pieces bring the outdoors indoors, with her gentle pinks, deep blues and turquoise greens adding a sense of peace to people’s lives. Kathleen has a deep connection to mother nature and can only explain her practice as a need to paint everyday, expressing impressions, feelings and experiences in her daily life. Rhee’s personal style has an atmospheric, powerful, mesmerising touch that she achieves by using subtle colour, depth and descriptive detail.

Alice Mak is the "hand" behind the brand CALICEGRAPHY and the mind who conceived Studio Dot, a studio dedicated to calligraphy teaching through classes and workshops. Alice specialized in pointed pen scripts. Since she first started learning Copperplate in 2015, her passion towards calligraphy has driven her assiduous pursuit of the craft to strive for the best work, and very soon she wins recognition among clients. She has also nurtured her interest in various other scripts, including Engrosser's Script, Spencerian, Madarasz Script, Italic and Roman to expand the genre of her practice. Her work was exhibited at the Alpha Beta Club Western Calligraphy Annual Exhibition in 2017, 2019 & 2020 respectively. 

I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from, and pick a few, of my favorite images from the entries to GASCA. I applaud all the courageous artists that made the effort to participate in this contest. I am only one of many that will view your artwork, and with that said, I will be honest and choose from the many the images that I like. I believe Art is good for the Soul!
